Tony Winners Jackman, Foster, Griffin, Furness to Star in Benefit Reading of The Roommate
Staged reading of Young Jean Lee's play to raise funds for MCC; Grubman, Foster, Griffin to direct
One-night-only event set for August 22, 2023
Tony winners Hugh Jackman, Sutton Foster, and Deborra-Lee Furness will star in a one-night-only staged reading of Young Jean Lee's 2007 play The Roommate on August 22, 2023. Ted Griffin will also perform, and Griffin, Grubman, and Foster will direct the reading. The performance will be held at the Pershing Square Signature Center, and proceeds will benefit the MCC Theater Company.
The Roommate is a darkly comic play about two women who become roommates after meeting in a support group for people with hoarding disorder. The play explores themes of loneliness, isolation, and the power of female friendship.
Jackman will play the role of the roommate played by Lili Taylor in Neil LaBute's 2010 film adaptation of the play. Foster will play the role of the roommate played by Chloe Sevigny in the film. Furness will play the role of the therapist, played by Natasha Lyonne in the film. Griffin will play the role of the landlord.
The staged reading is being produced by The Knock and MCC Theater Company. Tickets go on sale to the public on July 18, 2023.
