STILL UNCLEAR: NASA STILL WORKING TO DETERMINE WHY ASTRONAUT WAS HOSPITALIZED AFTER RETURN TO EARTH
The Astronaut Spent Six Months on the International Space Station
NASA is still trying to determine why an astronaut was hospitalized after returning to Earth from a six-month mission on the International Space Station. The astronaut, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in Houston, Texas, on Thursday after landing at the Johnson Space Center. NASA said in a statement that the astronaut is in stable condition and is undergoing tests to determine the cause of their illness.
Symptoms Include Fatigue and Orthostatic Hypotension
NASA said the astronaut is experiencing symptoms including fatigue and orthostatic hypotension, which is a drop in blood pressure when standing up. Orthostatic hypotension is a common problem for astronauts returning to Earth after spending time in space, as their bodies have to readjust to gravity. However, NASA said the astronaut's symptoms are more severe than usual.
Astronaut Was Part of SpaceX Crew-5
The astronaut was part of the SpaceX Crew-5 mission, which launched to the ISS in October 2022. The crew spent six months conducting research and maintenance on the ISS. They returned to Earth on Thursday, landing off the coast of Florida.
