Cold Weather: Be Prepared For Lower Temperatures
A Storm Is Coming
Expect below average temperatures early next week as a cold front moves into our area. Remember to keep your pets inside and bring in any plants that may be sensitive to the cold.
How To Stay Warm in Cold Weather
* Stay dry. Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing.
* Cover your head, neck, and mouth with a hat, scarf, and mask.
* Mittens are better than gloves.
* Wear sturdy waterproof boots.
* Change wet clothing as soon as possible.
* Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
* Drink plenty of fluids, including warm beverages like tea or soup.
How To Help Others Stay Warm This Winter
* Volunteer at a local shelter.
* Donate warm clothing to a charity.
* Check in on elderly neighbors to make sure they are warm and have enough food.
* Help clear snow and ice from sidewalks and driveways.
* Report any downed power lines or gas leaks to the appropriate authorities.
Pets Are Susceptible to the Cold, Too
Pets can get frostbite and hypothermia just like people. Avoid walking your dog in extreme weather and keep them indoors as much as possible. If you must go outside, make sure your pet is wearing a coat or sweater and that their paws are covered.

Winter weather can be dangerous. Take precautions to stay safe and warm.
