Hornets Win Preseason Match Against Magic
The Charlotte Hornets pulled away from the Orlando Magic in the second half to win their Friday night preseason match 113-107, with Gordon Hayward leading the scoring with 20 points.
Hayward scored 10 points in the third period when the Hornets started to build their lead. He made a jumper to give Charlotte their first double-digit lead and finished the quarter with a 3-pointer to put the Hornets up 87-77.
Terry Rozier added 19 points for Charlotte, while Anthony Lamb (16), PJ Washington (15) and Nick Richards (12) also scored in double figures.
Franz Wagner led the Magic with 18 points. Paolo Banchero (15), Terance Mann (15) and Gary Harris (15) also scored in double figures.
Hornets Overcome First Half Deficit
The Magic led 60-54 at halftime, but the Hornets held Orlando to just 16 points in the third quarter while scoring 33 points of their own to take control of the game.
The Hornets went on a 13-4 run to start the second half before Wagner scored Orlando's first points of the period with a pair of free throws. The Hornets kept the pressure on and increased their lead to 98-83 on a dunk by Richards midway through the fourth quarter.
Both Teams Preparing for Regular Season
The preseason game was the third for both teams and helped them prepare for the regular season, which begins next week.
The Hornets will open their regular season at home against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, while the Magic will host the Indiana Pacers on the same night.
