With Kentucky Matchup Looming, Duke Still Has No Idea Why Cooper Flagg Is Cramping So Much
The Blue Devils star center has been dealing with the issue all season, and it's unclear if he'll be able to play against the Wildcats
Cooper Flagg, the starting center for the Duke Blue Devils, has been dealing with cramping issues all season. The 6-foot-10, 250-pound junior has missed several practices and games due to the problem, and it's unclear if he'll be able to play in Duke's upcoming game against the Kentucky Wildcats.
Flagg is a key part of Duke's team. He's averaging 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and he's one of the team's best defenders. Without him, the Blue Devils would be at a significant disadvantage against Kentucky.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said he's not sure what's causing Flagg's cramping. The center has been to see several doctors, but no one has been able to identify the problem.
Krzyzewski said he's hopeful that Flagg will be able to play against Kentucky. But if he's not able to go, the Blue Devils will have to find a way to replace his production.
One option is to start freshman center Mark Williams. Williams is a 6-foot-11, 240-pound five-star recruit who has shown flashes of his potential this season.
Another option is to move forward Paolo Banchero to center. Banchero is a 6-foot-10, 250-pound freshman who is one of the most talented players in the country.
Regardless of who starts at center, Duke will need to find a way to fill Flagg's void if he's unable to play against Kentucky.
