'We are in a new place': Bernstein reacts to Hegseth's comments about women in combat roles
Fox News host Pete Hegseth has come under fire for his comments about women in combat roles, with many accusing him of sexism.
In a recent interview, Hegseth said that he believes women are "not as strong" as men and that they should not be allowed to serve in combat roles.
His comments have sparked outrage from many, including former CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson, who called them "outrageous" and "offensive".
Bernstein, a CNN political commentator, said that Hegseth's comments are "out of touch" with reality.
"We are in a new place," she said. "Women have been serving in combat roles for years, and they have proven themselves to be just as capable as men."
Bernstein also pointed out that there is no evidence to support Hegseth's claim that women are not as strong as men.
"In fact," she said, "studies have shown that women are actually more resilient than men in many ways."
Hegseth has defended his comments, saying that he is simply stating his opinion.
However, his comments have been widely condemned by many, including members of the military.
Retired Army General Martin Dempsey said that Hegseth's comments are "not only offensive, but they are also inaccurate."
"Women have served with distinction in combat roles for years," he said. "They have proven themselves to be just as capable as men, and they deserve our respect."
