San Diego State Aztecs football team defeats Idaho State Bengals football team
The San Diego State Aztecs football team defeated the Idaho State Bengals football team 38-7 on Saturday, September 10, 2023, at SDCCU Stadium in San Diego, California.
The Aztecs (2-0) were led by running back Chance Bell, who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Quarterback Braxton Burmeister completed 15 of 24 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 37 yards.
The Bengals (0-2) were led by quarterback Hunter Hays, who completed 12 of 25 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown. Running back James Madison rushed for 55 yards on 12 carries.
The Aztecs defense held the Bengals to just 208 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.
The Aztecs took an early lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Bell in the first quarter. The Bengals responded with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Hays to tight end Connor Whitney in the second quarter, but the Aztecs took a 14-7 lead into halftime on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Burmeister to wide receiver Jesse Matthews.
The Aztecs extended their lead to 21-7 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Bell in the third quarter, and then put the game away with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Burmeister to wide receiver Tyrell Shavers in the fourth quarter.
The Aztecs will host the Utah Utes next Saturday, September 17, at SDCCU Stadium.
The Bengals will host the Weber State Wildcats next Saturday, September 17, at Holt Arena.
