Young rolled his ankle late in the third quarter of Wednesday's game and did not return. He finished the game with 25 points and 10 assists.
The Hawks announced Thursday that Young has a sprained right ankle and is listed as day-to-day.
Young is averaging 27.7 points and 9.8 assists per game this season.
The Hawks are 9-8 this season with Young in the lineup and 1-3 without him.
If Young is unable to play on Friday, the Hawks will likely start Delon Wright at point guard.
Wright has started 12 games for the Hawks this season and is averaging 8.2 points and 4.7 assists per game.
The Celtics are 12-6 this season and are coming off a win over the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
