Witnesses Describe 'Terrifying' Scene as Tornado Rips Through Town

A tornado touched down in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, at approximately 4:30 PM on May 15, 2023, causing widespread damage but miraculously resulting in no injuries.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tornado was an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with winds reaching up to 115 miles per hour.
Witnesses Recall the 'Nightmare'
Eyewitnesses described the scene as "terrifying" as the tornado tore through the town, uprooting trees, damaging homes, and scattering debris.
Local resident Sarah Jones told reporters, "It was like something out of a nightmare. The wind was howling, and all of a sudden, the roof of our house started to lift off."
Emergency Crews Respond to Extensive Damage
Emergency crews worked throughout the night to clear debris and assess the damage.
According to the Rockaway Beach Police Department, approximately 20 homes were severely damaged, and several businesses were also affected.
