Spain face daunting task against Poland in BJK Cup opening tie
Spain will face a tough task when they take on Poland in their opening tie of the Billie Jean King Cup.
The two teams will meet in the city of Radom, Poland, from April 15-16, with the winner advancing to the Finals in November.
Spain is the defending champion, having won the title in 2021, but they will be without their top player, Garbiñe Muguruza, who is injured.
Poland, meanwhile, will be led by world number one Iga Świątek, who is in excellent form having won the Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships this year.
Świątek will be the heavy favorite in her matches, but Spain has a strong team and will be hoping to cause an upset.
The tie will be played on indoor hard courts, which will favor Świątek, but Spain will hope to use their experience to overcome the odds.
The other teams in Spain's group are Italy and Kazakhstan. The winner of the group will advance to the Finals, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from November 8-13.
