San Diego State Women's Basketball Defeats Idaho State Bengals in Exhibition Game
Aztecs Prevail in Preseason Matchup
The San Diego State University women's basketball team opened its exhibition season with a convincing victory over the Idaho State Bengals on Thursday, November 3rd. The Aztecs dominated the game from the start, leading by as many as 30 points in the second half. They ultimately secured a comfortable 87-57 win.
Strong Start for the Aztecs
The Aztecs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They shot 50% from the field in the first quarter and held the Bengals to just 27%. SDSU's defense was particularly impressive, forcing 10 turnovers and holding ISU to just 1-of-11 shooting from three-point range.
Leading the charge for the Aztecs was senior guard Asia Avinger, who scored a game-high 18 points. Avinger was efficient from the field, shooting 7-of-12, and also dished out four assists.
Balanced Scoring and Defense
The Aztecs' victory was a team effort, with four players scoring in double figures. In addition to Avinger's 18 points, junior forward Mallory Adams added 15 points, senior guard Deja Smith contributed 14 points, and sophomore guard Sophia Ramos chipped in with 11 points.
The Aztecs' defense continued to impress throughout the game, holding the Bengals to just 36% shooting from the field and forcing 17 turnovers. SDSU also dominated the rebounding battle, outrebounding ISU 44-29.
Looking Ahead
The Aztecs' exhibition win against Idaho State is a positive sign heading into the regular season. The team showed strong chemistry, balance, and defensive intensity. They will open the regular season on Monday, November 7th, at home against the Cal State Fullerton Titans.
