No. 19 Kentucky Pulls Off Upset Against No. 6 Duke to End Spartans Run
Duke Falls in Overtime
In the final game of the 2024 Champions Classic, No. 19 Kentucky upset No. 6 Duke in overtime. The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than five points at any point in regulation.
Kentucky took an early lead in the first half, but Duke fought back to take a 34-30 lead at halftime. The second half was more of the same, with both teams trading baskets. Kentucky tied the game with just over a minute remaining in regulation, and the game went to overtime.
In overtime, Kentucky outscored Duke 7-2 to secure the victory. Oscar Tshiebwe led the way for Kentucky with 22 points and 18 rebounds. Jacob Toppin added 16 points and Antonio Reeves had 15 points.
Freshman Dariq Whitehead led the way for Duke with 20 points. Jeremy Roach added 16 points and Kyle Filipowski had 14 points.
No. 1 Kansas Handles Michigan State
In the other game of the Champions Classic, No. 1 Kansas defeated Michigan State 87-74. The Jayhawks led by just four points at halftime, but they pulled away in the second half to secure the victory.
Jalen Wilson led the way for Kansas with 22 points. Gradey Dick added 18 points, Kevin McCullar had 17 points, and Ernest Udeh Jr. had 12 points.
Joey Hauser led the way for Michigan State with 19 points. AJ Hoggard added 14 points and Jaxon Kohler had 11 points.
The Champions Classic is an annual event that features four of the top teams in college basketball. This year's event was held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
