Mavericks Win Series Opener, Take 1-0 Lead Over Warriors
Luka Dončić exploded for 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 112-87 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
The Mavericks, who finished the regular season with the fourth-best record in the Western Conference, took control of the game early and never looked back.
Dončić, the 23-year-old Slovenian sensation, was unstoppable from the field, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and 5-of-10 from three-point range. He also hit all six of his free-throw attempts.
Dončić's performance was all the more impressive considering that he was playing on a sprained ankle.
The Warriors, who are seeking their fourth NBA championship in eight years, were led by Stephen Curry's 20 points.
However, Curry was just 7-of-23 from the field and 4-of-13 from three-point range.
The Mavericks held the Warriors to just 38.9% shooting from the field and 28.6% shooting from three-point range.
The Mavericks also dominated the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Warriors 51-35.
The Mavericks will look to take a 2-0 lead in the series when they host the Warriors in Game 2 on Friday night.
