Jasikevicius on EuroLeague competition: Bayern’s the only team playing good basketball
Barcelona coach Sarunas Jasikevicius gave his thoughts on current EuroLeague competition ahead of playoff series vs. Baskonia
Coach described Bayern Munich as the only team playing well amid a tight playoff race
With the EuroLeague playoffs set to begin this week, Barcelona coach Sarunas Jasikevicius spoke to the media about the current state of the competition. He began by praising the level of play in the league this season, saying that "the level of basketball in the EuroLeague is very high. There are no easy games."
However, Jasikevicius also noted that he believes there is one team that has separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
"Right now, I think Bayern Munich is the only team that is playing really good basketball," he said. "They have a very good system, they play together, and they have a lot of talent. They are the team to beat right now."
Jasikevicius' comments come after Bayern Munich finished the regular season with a 21-7 record, good for second place in the standings. The German club has been one of the most consistent teams in the league all season long, and they have a number of talented players, including former NBA All-Star guard DeAndre Jordan.
Barcelona, meanwhile, finished the regular season with a 19-9 record, good for fourth place in the standings. The Spanish club has a lot of talent, but they have been inconsistent at times this season.
Jasikevicius knows that his team will have to play their best basketball if they want to beat Bayern Munich in the playoffs.
"We are going to have to play our best basketball to beat them," he said. "They are a very good team, and they are playing with a lot of confidence right now. But we are confident in our abilities, and we believe that we can beat anyone."
The EuroLeague playoffs begin on April 19th, with Bayern Munich facing off against Crvena Zvezda in the quarterfinals. Barcelona will face off against Baskonia in the other quarterfinal matchup.
