'If you end up getting to Wembley, everyone's going to be celebrating it just as much as if we get promoted': Part-time Kettering Town to face Wrexham in FA Trophy final
Kettering Town's part-time heroes to play in front of 40,000 fans at Wembley
Poppies' boss believes famous stadium creates perfect opportunity to showcase club
Kettering Town manager Mark Stimson hopes his part-time stars can put the club on the map when they play in front of 40,000 fans at Wembley.
The National League North part-timers will face Wrexham in the FA Trophy final on May 22 after coming from behind to beat Notts County in their semi-final on Tuesday.
Around 2,000 Poppies fans will make the trip to Wembley, and Stimson believes the club's triumph has given the whole town a lift.
"It's magnificent," he said. "Everybody's got a smile on their face. You don't get that often, do you? You get to Wembley and you just want to be there and enjoy the day.
"These lads are going to go out and give it their all. The opposition will have a lot of support, they've taken 10,000 or 11,000, but we'll have great support.
"If you end up getting to Wembley, everyone's going to be celebrating it just as much as if we get promoted. It's a reward for everyone, whether they're a director or a cleaner."
The two clubs have met twice this season, drawing 2-2 at Wrexham and winning 1-0 at Kettering in the league.
Wrexham, who are pushing for promotion to the Football League, will be favourites, but Stimson is confident his players can cause an upset.
"It's a great occasion and it's going to be a great day for the club," he said. "We've just got to make sure we enjoy it and give a good account of ourselves.
"If we can repeat the same performance as we did today, we'll give it a real go. We've shown what we're capable of. We've got a couple of weeks to work on it, and we'll be ready."
