St. Louis, Missouri - Veterans Day 2023
A solemn ceremony held at historic St. Louis Cemetery
In a moving tribute to those who have served, a Veterans Day ceremony was held at the historic St. Louis Cemetery, honoring the fallen veterans laid to rest there. The event, organized by the St. Louis Cemetery Association, brought together community members, veterans' organizations, and city officials to pay their respects to the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country.
The ceremony began with a prayer and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Several speakers took to the podium to share their thoughts on the importance of Veterans Day and to honor the veterans buried at St. Louis Cemetery. Mayor Tishaura Jones spoke about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families and thanked them for their service.
The keynote speaker was retired Army Colonel Arthur J. Lichte, a St. Louis native who served in the Vietnam War. Colonel Lichte spoke about his experiences as a soldier and the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by all veterans. He concluded his speech by urging those in attendance to work towards a more peaceful future.
After the speeches, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the cemetery's memorial. The wreath was placed by Mayor Jones and Colonel Lichte, and a moment of silence was observed in memory of the fallen.
