Blaugranes dominate from start to finish in 6-0 victory
FC Barcelona kicked off their UEFA Women's Champions League campaign with a dominant 6-0 victory over SKN St. Pölten on Thursday. The Blaugranes were in control from the outset, creating numerous chances and eventually finding the back of the net on six occasions.
First-half dominance
Barcelona opened the scoring in the 10th minute through a stunning strike from Aitana Bonmatí. The Spanish international picked up the ball on the left wing, drove into the box, and curled a shot into the top corner. Just ten minutes later, Barcelona doubled their lead when Caroline Graham Hansen tapped in a cross from Fridolina Rolfö.
St. Pölten had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Barcelona's resolute defense. The Blaugranes continued to create chances, and they eventually made it 3-0 in the 35th minute when Mariona Caldentey scored from close range.
Second-half onslaught
Barcelona continued to dominate in the second half, and they extended their lead in the 52nd minute when Rolfö scored from a free-kick. Jenni Hermoso then made it 5-0 in the 65th minute with a header from a corner kick. The scoring was completed in the 80th minute when Claudia Pina scored from a rebound after a shot from Bonmatí was saved.
The victory was a perfect start to Barcelona's Champions League campaign. The Blaugranes will now turn their attention to their next match, which is a home game against Arsenal on October 27.
