Syracuse looks to improve to 2-0 on the season

Joe Girard III scored 24 points and Judah Mintz added 20 as Syracuse beat Colgate 83-64 in the season opener for both teams on Monday night.

Jesse Edwards had 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Maliq Brown finished with 10 points for the Orange.

Tucker Richardson led Colgate with 17 points, while Keegan Records added 14 points and Nelly Cummings had 10 points.

Syracuse led by just five points at halftime, but the Orange pulled away in the second half thanks to a 16-2 run.

The Orange shot 50% from the field, while Colgate shot just 38.5%.

Syracuse also outrebounded Colgate 42-30.

The Orange will be back in action on Friday night when they host Cornell.

Colgate looks to rebound from season-opening loss

Colgate will look to rebound from its season-opening loss when it hosts Albany on Wednesday night.

The Raiders have won their last two meetings with the Great Danes, including a 78-66 victory in last year's season opener.

Colgate is led by Richardson, a senior guard who averaged 14.5 points per game last season.

Albany is led by Aaron Reddish, a junior guard who averaged 15.9 points per game last season.

The Great Danes are coming off a 76-63 loss to Siena in their season opener.

Wednesday night's game will be the first of two meetings between Colgate and Albany this season.

The Raiders will travel to Albany for a rematch on February 11.
