Caleb Wilson Takes in Kentucky Win Over Duke
With a 78-74 upset victory over No. 11 Duke, Kentucky strengthened their NCAA Tournament resume Tuesday night at Rupp Arena.
After battling a three-point halftime deficit, Oscar Tshiebwe and the Wildcats pulled ahead in the second half with big free throws and defensive stops. They held the Blue Devils to 35% shooting and forced 16 turnovers, including 10 steals.
Tshiebwe led the way with a productive double-double of 14 points and 21 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds. Antonio Reeves came up big off the bench with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, while Jacob Toppin added 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Tshiebwe's Dominance on the Boards
Oscar Tshiebwe was a force on the boards, grabbing 21 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds. He also contributed 14 points, helping the Wildcats dominate the paint. Duke was unable to match Tshiebwe's physicality and rebounding prowess, which proved crucial in Kentucky's victory.
Reeves' Timely Shooting
Antonio Reeves provided a spark off the bench, knocking down four 3-pointers and scoring 18 points. His timely shooting helped Kentucky keep pace with Duke and eventually pull ahead in the second half. Reeves' ability to stretch the floor and hit shots from beyond the arc was a key factor in the Wildcats' upset.
Adequate Defense
Kentucky's defense stepped up in the second half, holding Duke to just 35% shooting and forcing 10 steals. The Wildcats' pressure defense forced Duke into turnovers and disrupted their offensive flow. Jacob Toppin's three steals and Sahvir Wheeler's two steals were instrumental in Kentucky's defensive effort.
This victory gives Kentucky a much-needed boost to their NCAA Tournament resume. The Wildcats are now 16-9 overall and 7-5 in the SEC, with a signature win over a top-15 opponent.
