Bucks' Damian Lillard Ruled Out for Tuesday's Game Against Raptors After Entering Concussion Protocol
Portland Trail Blazers' star guard Damian Lillard has entered the NBA's concussion protocol and will miss the team's game against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, according to a team announcement.
Lillard suffered a head injury during the Trail Blazers' 113-103 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. He collided with Kings forward Harrison Barnes while driving to the basket in the third quarter and immediately grabbed his head.
Lillard was able to walk off the court under his own power, but he did not return to the game. He was evaluated by team doctors and placed in the concussion protocol.
The concussion protocol is a set of guidelines established by the NBA to help manage concussions and prevent further injury. Players who enter the protocol must undergo a series of tests and examinations before they are cleared to return to play.
There is no timetable for Lillard's return. He will be re-evaluated by team doctors in the coming days to determine when he is able to resume basketball activities.
Lillard's absence is a big blow to the Trail Blazers. The six-time All-Star is averaging 29.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game this season.
The Trail Blazers will need to find a way to replace Lillard's production without him. CJ McCollum, Anfernee Simons, and Jusuf Nurkic will likely need to step up in his absence.
The Trail Blazers are currently 29-32 on the season and are in ninth place in the Western Conference. They are 1.5 games behind the eighth-place New Orleans Pelicans for the final play-in spot.
The Trail Blazers will face the Raptors on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on TNT.
