Angels Sign Travis d’Arnaud To Two-Year Deal
Los Angeles Adds Veteran Catcher
Former Met Set to Join Halos After Five Seasons in Flushing
The Los Angeles Angels have signed catcher Travis d'Arnaud to a two-year deal, the team announced on Thursday. The 33-year-old d'Arnaud spent the last five seasons with the New York Mets and is expected to serve as the Angels' primary catcher in 2023.
D'Arnaud brings a wealth of experience to Los Angeles, having played in over 750 career games. He is a two-time All-Star and has a career .269 batting average with 90 home runs and 351 RBIs. He is also considered a strong defensive catcher, having won a Gold Glove Award in 2015.
The Angels were in need of a catcher after trading away Max Stassi to the Chicago Cubs in November. D'Arnaud is expected to fill that void and provide the Angels with a reliable option behind the plate.
D'Arnaud is the latest in a series of moves made by the Angels this offseason. The team has also signed outfielder Hunter Renfroe and pitcher Tucker Davidson, and traded for outfielder Brandon Drury. The Angels are hoping that these additions will help them improve on their 73-89 record from last season.
